Willis Creek, Bryce, and the Kaibab
Sections 8, 9, and 10 take the route page from Round Valley Draw to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The mileages are 49.0, 66.3, and 60.9. Section 8 ends at Willis Creek. Section 9 crosses Bryce Canyon National Park and Buckskin Gulch to the Arizona Trail at the state line. Section 10 follows that trail across the Kaibab Plateau to the Saddle Mountain-Nankoweap trailhead.
The text is the route page's. The warning at the top of that page covers these sections with the others: off-trail, unsigned, and not a sufficient guide.
Section 8, down to the Paria and up Willis Creek
The route descends the narrows of Round Valley Draw and continues down Hackberry Canyon to its confluence with the Paria River. It goes up the Paria, then up Sheep Creek, then up and out of the narrows of Willis Creek, which is the end of the section. The mileage is 49.0. The permit line names Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
The gallery captions striped hills along the Paria River. The homepage's tall frame is the Round Valley Draw country at the start of this section. Neither picture is a diagram of Hackberry Canyon or of the turn up Sheep Creek.
Choi's 2008 notes mention water through middle Hackberry toward the Cockscomb and Cottonwood Creek, which is the section 7 side of Round Valley Draw, and a later line about Willis Creek. Those lines stay dated on the updates note. The route page does not describe the flow of the Paria or of Willis Creek. Sheep Creek is the step between the Paria and the Willis Creek narrows, and the page gives that order and no more.
Section 9, Bryce and Buckskin Gulch
Section 9 keeps climbing toward Bryce on a dirt road along Willis Creek to the junction with Agua Canyon. Agua Canyon is followed to the Under the Rim Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park. That trail is followed, paralleling the Pink Cliffs, to Riggs Spring. The route leaves the park by Lower Podunk Creek, then Bullrush Gorge, Park Wash, and Kitchen Corral Wash, to Utah Highway 89.
After the highway, the route goes down Buckskin Gulch, exits by Wire Pass, and follows the Coyote valley road to the stateline trailhead. The mileage is 66.3. Permits named: Bryce Canyon National Park and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Wire Pass is the exit from Buckskin Gulch on this page, not a second park.
The gallery captions a frame near Rainbow Point in Bryce Canyon National Park. The homepage also carries a wide Rainbow Point photograph. Rainbow Point is not a name on the section 9 paragraph. The paragraph's Bryce names are Agua Canyon, the Under the Rim Trail, the Pink Cliffs, and Riggs Spring. The picture and the paragraph should not be collapsed into one landmark.
Section 10, the Arizona Trail to Nankoweap
Section 10 is the shortest description of the three. The route page says this part of the route follows the Arizona Trail across the Kaibab Plateau from the Utah-Arizona border to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, at the Saddle Mountain-Nankoweap trailhead. The mileage is 60.9. The permit line names Grand Canyon National Park.
There is no canyon-by-canyon list on this section, unlike section 9. A reader gets the trail's name, the plateau, the state line, and the trailhead. That thinness is why the route page's insufficiency sentence matters here as much as in a section that names twenty canyons. Familiarizing is all the page claims to do.
The North Rim trailhead is the start of section 11, which descends the Nankoweap Trail to the river. The next note begins at that descent. The gallery captions the North Kaibab Plateau, which is this plateau in the site's picture labels, and it captions the North Kaibab again on the climb out in section 12. The plateau and the trail out of the canyon share a name and are not the same day of walking.
Highway 89, Wire Pass, and the state line
Highway 89 is a crossing in the middle of section 9, between Kitchen Corral Wash and Buckskin Gulch. The page does not name a town at the crossing. Wire Pass is the exit from Buckskin Gulch, and the Coyote valley road is the last leg to the stateline trailhead. The page does not call that road House Rock Valley Road. A 2008 note on the updates page says the Coyote Valley Road is also known as House Rock Valley Road. That alias is the note's, not the route page's title.
The state line in the section 10 title is the Utah-Arizona border, stated in the section sentence. Section 9's trailhead is the start of that Arizona Trail stretch. The previous note ends at Round Valley Draw, where section 8 begins. The monument permit runs through section 8 and section 9. Section 10's permit is the park.
The six-parks note places Bryce in this window and the Grand Canyon's North Rim at the end of it. Zion is still section 14, after the canyon crossing.
Drawings, links, and the Pink Cliffs
The maps page links overviews for sections 8, 9, and 10. The drawing files are not being served, so those links do not open a map. The Pink Cliffs, Riggs Spring, Buckskin Gulch, and the Nankoweap trailhead remain names on the route page.
The links page lists Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and Grand Canyon National Park among the government sites. It also lists the Arizona parks and monuments as names only. It does not host the Arizona Trail's own map.
The mileage table shows 49.0, 66.3, and 60.9 in a row. Together they are the route page's account of how the walk leaves the monument, touches Bryce, and reaches the rim. The page never adds those three numbers, and this note does not either. Bryce Canyon National Park is the permit on section 9 only, in this trio. Section 8 is the monument. Section 10 is Grand Canyon National Park. Riggs Spring stays inside the Bryce sentence. The Kaibab sentence does not borrow it. The names stay put.
